Original fiction reading of the month included The Scholar and the Last Faerie Door, by H.G. Parry, a dark academia historical fantasy with a lot of ominous foreshadowing that kept me turning pages to see exactly how everything was going to go wrong.

The other day I was looking at my 2023 fic reading stats post for unrelated reasons and got to the line about hoping to find a new "large and active fiction-based fandom" in 2024 and had a sad little laugh. That very much has NOT happened so far and I've neither read nor written much fic this year as a result. Being in between major fandoms is the worst.

October was particularly bad because I was traveling again for most of it (work-related) and while I enjoy traveling and am quite happy with what I accomplished, it also leaves me even less time to sift through my favorite tags in search of anything to capture my interest.

Anyway, that's all a lead-up to the unfortunate fact that I only have one single rec this month. 🥲

As I mentioned at the end of March, I was out of the country and with rather spotty internet access for almost a month from mid-March to mid-April, so that's why I'm combining my March and April fic recs this year. On top of that, I had an extremely busy day today and almost forgot that it was May 1st and time to post them, but here they finally are, squeaking in under the wire with a few hours to spare! 😅

I'm acquiring a bit of a collection of these, so I thought I'd put them all in one place for easy reference.

These fics are all based on ATEEZ's 'Bouncy' music video, specifically the boxing scenes with Choi San (the boxer) and Jung Wooyoung (the manager), and you'll definitely want to watch the video before reading any of these fics, to get the vibes. Luckily, it's a fun song and a fun video (I think you'll especially enjoy it if you're a fan of cyberpunk dystopias), and also only four minutes long.

I have listed my personal favorite first, just because. The rest are also great, and are listed alphabetically by title rather than in any order of preference. All fics are primarily Choi San/Jung Wooyoung (or rather, their characters in the MV), but a few reference other pairings, too.
